Honda Civic Type R: PPF the Bespoke Way

Jesse Xiong • October 21, 2025

No substitutions for the best car Honda currently makes.

At Humble Crew Auto Spa, precision is everything — especially when a car like the 2024 Honda Civic Type R comes through our doors. This vehicle represents the peak of Honda’s performance engineering, and that deserves the highest level of preservation. Our team performed a full front end paint protection film (PPF) installation followed by a ceramic coating treatment to lock in that fresh-off-the-lot gloss and ensure the paint stays pristine for years to come.

With that being said, you can get PPF and a Ceramic Coating anywhere here in Plano. Why did our client choose us to work on his car? We're going to show you the behind the scenes of our work, and you'll see why he chose us for his baby.

Step 1: Trim Removal for a Seamless Install

Before laying a single piece of film, we carefully remove trim and vents so the PPF can be tucked behind panels instead of cut short at the edges. Tucked film not only looks amazing (especially on a white car where dirt can get trapped on the exposed film and look unsightly), but is more durable as well. When film is tucked this way, the edges are less likely to catch and lift, giving this installation better durability over time.

Step 2: Applying and Squeegeeing the PPF

With each pre-cut panel aligned and floated into place, we begin squeegeeing out the slip solution to anchor the film perfectly across every curve and contour. The pre-cut film has the edges extended to tuck in the areas that we've prepared (edge of panels, areas where panels were removed to clean/tuck). This not only ensures the patterns to be precise, but with the modifications the film installation is bespoke.

Step 3: Post-Heating for Long-Term Adhesion

Once the film has been put in place, we follow up the work with a heat treatment using a heat gun on low setting. The slow heat “locks in” the film, ensuring it won’t lift over time — even around tight bumper recesses and headlight edges. This step is incredibly important to make sure our bespoke install doesn't lift, and is commonly skipped by amateur shops who want to save time.

Step 4: Ceramic Coating for Ultimate Surface Protection

After completing the PPF install, we applied NXTZEN Elite Ceramic Coating to seal the remaining vehicle. Ceramic Coatings are designed for chemical protection, specifically water spots, bird poop, bug guts, tree sap, and dirt/grime. Ceramic Coatings mitigate those contaminants from sticking and staining paint, keeping this Championship White paint in great shape.

We apply the Ceramic Coating by hand, panel by panel. Nxtzen is a far more concentrated formula compared to consumer grade (and even some pro grade) products, which has a higher margin of error if not removed properly once cured. This concentration is part of why Nxtzen Elite Ceramic Coating holds up so well. One application is good for up to five years of continuous use.

Step 5: The Final Reveal

The finished product not only looks amazing with its deep luster and intense shine, but is fully protected from rock chips and other physical damage up front. With the PPF being installed bespoke, there aren't as many visible lines or seams to collect dirt, keeping the finish in great shape as the car sees usage.

What isn't shown here is how the Ceramic Coating will hold up over time; Nxtzen Elite keeps this finish easy to clean and maintains its high gloss even as the product ages. Essentially, the owner can have his cake and eat it too.

Why Enthusiasts Choose Humble Crew

We're enthusiasts too. With these FL5's specifically, we know how these cars are in and out, from disassembly to quirks with the auto rev-matching features. When trusting a shop to work on your Type R, you want to bring it to a shop that understands these cars, loves them, and does the work at the same level that we'd do our own vehicles.
